Furniture makers Egevark are currently challenging status quo in the world of
Danish fine furniture. Rounded by the most exquisite traditions of this proud and
renowned industry, Egevark offers a new and uncompromising take on creating
next generation furniture. Or is their take actually an old one?
The fact of the matter is that Egevark owners Mette Bentzen and Lasse Kristensen
draw on craft traditions dating back to the time of their great-grandparents; while at
the same time offering a breath of fresh air to their industry. An industry that for
decades has idolized the designer and somewhat neglected the true craftsman-
ship. Egevark is all about the opposite; no compromises apply in the process of
manufacturing and the beauty and longevity of the furniture are created in an
almost spiritual devotion to the finest wood work.
All Egevark pieces are meticulously crafted at the Egeverk workshop in Elsinore
(Helsingor) – an old industrial town on the north coast of Zealand – and here a
certain workshop spirit is cultivated. All Egevaerk furniture makers are trained from
scratch in the workshop to meet til staggering quality demands of Mette Bentzen
and Lasse Kristensen. Both Mette and Lasse are award-winning furniture makers
trained in the most esteemed workshops of Copenhagen, and they continue to
push the envelope when developing their designs and craft. Modest by nature and
always absorbed in his work, it is only Lasse’s T-shirts that occasionally give him
away; he is a Danish as well as a Nordic champion in cabinetmaking, and has even
defended the Danish colours in the world championship.
The word ‘compromise’ is nowhere to be found in the Egevark dictionary!

‘This is an introduction to the real and imaginary worlds of Egeværk. Here, everything pivots around wood, nature, collaboration and craftsmanship, and is an invitation to reconnect to all of the above.
Egeværk has a deep-rooted connection to the landscape in their native homeland of Denmark and its neighbouring countries, specifically the harsh winter icescapes of Sweden, Norway and Iceland’ as stated on Egeværk website.

‘To Egeværk, wood is the perfect material: “Precious metals need extreme heat in order to melt, porcelain and clay need burning in order to become stabile.
Throughout our process, the wood is itself, and thus an equal partner to us. The biggest beauty of it is that wood never stops living. Even in a processed stage, it will live on as it ages, change due to light, humidity, wear and tear. It keeps interacting with its surroundings and somehow keeps breathing.”
